An Extremely Rare G5 Geomagnetic Storm Triggers the ‘Northern Lights’ (Aurora Borealis) over the Sky of Boston, Massachusetts – Photo from Hull by QH Concept

On Friday afternoon, while returning from an Engagement session in Manchester-by-the-Sea, a friend tagged me in an article about the rare phenomenon where Massachusetts residents could witness the Northern Lights over the city of Boston. A powerful solar flare, the strongest since 2017, erupted on the sun late Friday, leading to a spectacular display of aurora borealis on Earth. This intense solar activity originated from sunspot region 3664, resulting in breathtaking aurora displays globally from Friday through Saturday. Though we lack detailed understanding (only relying on information from Google), Daniel and I decided to journey to Hull to capture the aurora above Boston and the iconic Boston Lights.

As people began sharing their photos of the Aurora Borealis across the U.S, Hull’s sky remained heavily clouded, obscuring our view. However, we held onto hope and waited. Around 12:00 AM, the sky cleared, allowing us to capture stunning shots of the Northern Lights above Boston, and also the Boston Light lighthouse. Despite the chilly winds, the photos were well worth the effort. Eager to share our experience, we sent some photos to NBC10Boston and were thrilled when they featured our work in their articles.

Now, we’re excited to share our photos again to commemorate and share this year’s incredible atmospheric phenomenon.
